A very common myth is that hypnotherapy involves being “controlled” or made to do things against your will. In reality, clinical hypnotherapy is a collaborative process where you remain fully in control and aware throughout. Your brain is very clever, and if a suggestion doesn't resonate with your core morals and beliefs, it will simply not work!

Another myth is that hypnotherapy is the same as stage hypnosis, where people act out in exaggerated ways for entertainment, for instance clucking like a chicken or barking like a dog. Clinical hypnotherapy is entirely different, it’s a safe, therapeutic practice designed to help you make meaningful, lasting changes.  Now publicly recognised by the NHS as an approved alternative healthcare option.

It’s also often believed that you’ll forget everything the hypnotherapist says, but in truth, most people remember the session clearly. Hypnotherapy works by empowering you to access your subconscious mind and reframe thoughts or habits, all while feeling relaxed and in control.


There’s also a worry some people have that they might not “do it right” or won’t respond as expected during hypnotherapy. Rest assured, there’s no right or wrong way to experience hypnosis, it’s a personal process, and you’ll go at your own pace. Others may fear they’ll reveal personal thoughts or secrets they’d rather keep private, but hypnotherapy doesn’t force you to share anything you’re uncomfortable with.
